LEED Certification Overview
Both Belrock Construction Ltd. and Belrock Design Build Inc. have constructed LEED Certified projects during the past several years. Belrock is a member in good standing with the Canadian Green Building Council and is one of only a handful of construction companies that have successfully delivered a Gold Certified office building in Ontario.
A clearly defined understanding of the elements related to sustainable design and the LEED Certification process is paramount in order to achieve the building owner’s mandate. Belrock has not only constructed LEED Certified buildings, but has also architecturally designed one in-house. Additionally, Belrock has been retained to author entire sustainable design programs for major development portfolios. This experience gives Belrock a unique perspective and keen insight into the entire process from architecture to construction to commissioning and certification.
The sustainable design approach is not only about responsible corporate citizenship. It is a smart building philosophy that pays both tangible and intrinsic dividends in the form of energy efficiency, environmental awareness and employee relations.
Implementation of the LEED Scorecard has simplified the process of designing attainable goals for each and every project interested in the various different levels of certification. Whether the project is identified as NC (New Construction), C&S (Core & Shell) or EB (Existing Building) from baseline LEED Certified to LEED Platinum, both the USGBC and the CaGBC provide motivation and a road map within the points and scorecard system to achieve sustainable design.
Belrock also recognizes the necessity to retain LEED AP personnel as part of its operations staff to ensure the internal administration is maintained accurately in meeting the requirements set forth by the LEED consultant and ultimately the CaGBC during the certification process.
